What to Look for When Evaluating Hyperconverged Vendors

Hyperconverged infrastructure continues to be adopted by businesses of all sizes and hailed by analysts as the next step in the evolution of IT architecture, but how do you, well, take the hype out of hyperconvergence?

As business demands increase, the right formula of agility, economics and simplicity become even more important for enterprise data centers. As you evaluate potential solutions there are important factors to consider such as rapid deployment of storage, accessible management of your IT environment, and minimizing unplanned downtime, but most vendors claim this.

The fact is, however, that limitations still exist with certain HCI platforms. These vendors have not solved challenges such as deployments only targeting a focused set of workloads, the ability to prioritize performance to critical workloads, and providing the agility to scale alongside data center needs.

Here are a few key questions to help frame your HCI evaluation and ensure the solution you choose not only solves your challenges today, but future-proofs your environment, making the migration towards the software-defined data center less of a risk and more of a viable avenue for bolstering effective business processes.

  • Does it extract the highest levels of performance possible from my existing environment?
  • Does it offer assurance levels to ensure that critical services and applications are not impacted in extreme demand scenarios?
  • And does it have the built-in ability to deploy multiple, mixed workloads on a hyperconverged platform as well as standalone flash storage products?

The right hyperconverged platform allows customers to forego the need to constantly reconfigure IT for certain purposes and replaces it with an on-demand, dynamic system that puts the focus back on what matters – your business.
